Halloween Fun!

We have had an eventful few weeks since coming back from Fall Break. This Thursday we celebrated Halloween by having our annual "Sprucewood Halloween Parade". Students dressed up in their Halloween costumes and showed them off to everyone in school as well as parents who came to watch the parade. In the afternoon, we had our classroom Halloween party. Our parent volunteers manned 3 stations. Students played "Halloween Bingo", graphed the number of candy bones in a bag, and wrapped themselves up as mummies! After rotations, students ate treats ensuing in a sugar rush that they proudly took home to their parents. It was loads of fun! Below is a slideshow of our Halloween celebrations.

Last week we celebrated Halloween with our 2nd grade buddies by creating some silly, messy monsters. Our crazy creations are pictured here!

"This is the Place" Field Trip

Today was a fun and eventful day! We took a field trip to "This is the Place" in Salt Lake City. There, students learned a little bit about how the pioneers lived. We sat in an old school house and were taught very strict rules by our teacher. We even learned the Deseret Alphabet. Then we trudged through the snow to the saddlery. There we were taught how leather is made. It was really interesting but kind of gross. After that we were told how the pioneers traveled to the Great Salt Lake. We got to pull handcarts just like the pioneers! It was fun and challenging. Not only did the pioneers work hard, they knew how to have fun too. We learned a partner dance and had a blast dancing around the room! Before we left "This is the Place", we took a train ride around the entire park. It was an exciting day full of adventure and surprises! Below is a slide show of pictures from our field trip:

Utah Salt Dough Maps

For 4th grade social studies we study about the great state of Utah. For the first 6 weeks of school, we have been learning about Utah geography. For the past 2 weeks we have been working on our salt dough maps of Utah. We painted the 3 regions and the lakes and rivers. We also fashioned the dough to make mountains. It was a fun, messy project that the kids loved. Below is a slide show showcasing some of the salt dough maps we made. Enjoy!

Welcome to our class blog! I'm so excited to use technology with both students and parents this year. Hopefully this will be a great resource for everyone.
